Loretta Gentilini
I have over twenty years’ experience in delivering award-winning architectural projects in the UK. My expertise is the public sector, with a focus in education and community infrastructure. I see learning happily, and ageing well, as the bookends of a healthy society, sitting at the core of my interests. I have contributed at the creation of thriving learning environments and in parallel gained insight into the challenges faced by our fast-ageing population: I am keen to engage in meeting its housing needs with developments that are suitable, equitable and delightful.
At Maccreanor Lavington I have run refurbishment projects and feasibility studies for schools, leading the design of schemes such as Ibstock Place School new refectory in Roehampton and health and community elements of mixed-use developments. More recently I have supported new business and the continual review of quality assurance and compliance processes, while overseeing as design guardian residential redevelopment and estate regeneration projects such as the just completed Peabody MacFarlane Place, part of the White City Television Centre regeneration, and the York Way Estate densification scheme currently under construction in Islington.
In my new capacity of architectural consultant, I intend to focus on independent education, public, health and community buildings and on the developing later living sector.
Looking back, while studying in Florence I collaborated with Studio TAMassociati in Venice and contributed to the pan-European magazine Utopica, run by a network of architectural students. After graduation I worked in London for Hopkins Architects (then Michael Hopkins and Partners) on award-winning projects, while being part of Tower 151, a winning team of the EuroPAN 2 competition.
In the early ‘90s in Berlin I worked on the extension of Schönefeld Airport and on large scale residential developments in Potsdam and Brandenburg.
Back in London in the 00s I joined van Heyningen and Haward, where I led new build and refurbishment projects for schools, colleges and universities, including an environmentally pioneering, award-winning visitor centre for RSPB in Purfleet.
Through personal longstanding commitment I have extensive experience of residential self-build and I am a co-founder of Fleet CoHo, cohousing group in North London.
I was recently professional examiner at the Bartlett School of Architecture.
