Garden Greenhouse

Kent

In 2010 we were commissioned to create a new green house at a private residence located within the Kent countryside as part of a wider landscaping project which included a walled garden to the west of the house.

We sought to harvest the thermal mass of the garden wall positioning the principal sweeping glazed elevation to face south west with the large stone garden wall to the rear.  Low level and high level opening vents are controlled by a simple thermostat to regulate head during the hottest days with a central ribbon of stone floor used to raise humidity when water is sprayed onto it.

We combined these traditional techniques with a simple structure of 6 glulam arches, the stone garden wall and a single glazed envelope to create a modern greenhouse rooted in the landscape of the garden.
