Victoria & Albert Museum - Glass Gallery

Architects Journal

Pringle + Richards Architects has recently completed the Glass Gallery at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Project architect Penny Richards worked with museum curators to re-plan the original Grade I-listed gallery completed by Aston Webb in 1909. A spectacular steel-framed mezzanine floor - with glass treads, floor and balustrade - has been inserted to increase the exhibition space. The sculptural balustrade has been designed and made by Danny Lane using Pilkington's glass. Whitby & Bird acted as structural engineer, with Claremont Construction as contractor. The Glass Gallery opens to the public on 20 April.
