Six architects, including AHMM, Thomas Heatherwick, Ian Simpson and Wilkinson Eyre, have been shortlisted for the design phase of the Worthing swimming pool competition.

The six shortlisted firms are:

• Feilden Clegg Bradley
• Thomas Heatherwick with Saville Jones
• Pringle Richards Sharratt
• Ian Simpson Architects
• Wilkinson Eyre Architects

The winner will be chosen following a final assessment on 25 June.

The 4,500sq m centre will have an eight-lane, 25m-long pool, learner, indoor and outdoor pools with flumes and rapids, plus a fitness centre, café and creche.

Worthing Council is also looking for a landmark building which demonstrates 'civic pride and status'
