Natural History Museum Colchester

Colchester

PRS and sister company GuM Exhibition Design were appointed in October 2021 to undertake a feasibility study to redevelop the Natural History Museum Colchester. The Museum is located in a Grade II Listed church, the project includes the restoration of the church and churchyard, utilisation of the tower and interpretation of the heritage. On-site facilities will be improved through the provision of a new entrance sequence, café, shop and space for formal and informal learning. A new mezzanine level will increase the exhibition footprint.

The project will provide opportunities for researchers to work on the collection and to develop new content. Hundreds of artefacts will be brought out of the store and into the Museum to reinterpret the key messages in response to audience motivations. The exhibition will offer high levels of interactivity and seek to enhance the visitor's experience of the natural world and in particular the wildlife of Essex.
