We were first appointed to work at Ealing Studios in 2006 by Manhattan Loft to develop the design of two new buildings, as a continuation of three previously constructed buildings, along the southern boundary of this large site. We gained a new planning consent for these two buildings in 2007 to accommodate an increased floor area generated through a more efficient layout providing 25,900 sq.ft of office / studio space across three floors around a shared single vertical circulation core within a glazed link between them. Both buildings were completed in 2008
In 2009 we undertook a similar exercise for a third building to the northern edge of the studio’s site, obtaining a new planning consent in 2011. In 2012 we were appointed to carry out a substantial review of an extension, proposed as part of a previous planning consent, to the grade II listed ‘White House’ at the south east corner of the site.
Our examination of both the site context and the efficiency of the consented extension lead us to propose a free standing pavilion building adjacent to the White House set between mature cedar trees and southern boundary wall. Achieving the same quantity of accommodation this solution preserved the integrity of the original listed building. Consent was granted in 2012 and the building was completed in 2013.
In tandem to the process of reviewing the White House pavilion we also obtained planning consent for a single storey roof top extension to the Grade II listed south sound studio providing additional office / studio space.
In 2012 we were appointed to carry out a similar but far more extensive review of two large proposed buildings at the heart of the studio site including a basement car park for 96 cars and four floors of scenery workshop, office and studio accommodation. Planning consent for these two buildings was granted in 2012 with a subsequent non material amendment consent granted in September 2016. Design development is currently underway with a proposed completion date of 2019
